Canvas Health offers several treatment programs for adults and adolescents having problems with substance use to help bring about substantial and lasting change. Our programs emphasize the importance of reshaping a view of substance use issues into a more strengths-based perspective by providing holistic, effective and culturally relevant programming.
New Choices for Recovery. This program helps adult men and women take action to change their thinking and behaviors to both prevent relapse and to form a more positive relationship with themselves, others and their community. Our approaches include cognitive therapy, motivational interviewing and 12-step supports. We also address co-occurring mental health issues. Our outpatient chemical health services meet the high-quality standards of the state of Minnesota and have been licensed as a Minnesota “Rule 31” chemical dependency program that is recognized by insurance companies.
Adolescent Community Options Program. This is a long-term, cognitive behavioral, non-traditional outpatient treatment program for adolescents (age 13-18) who are at high risk for out-of-home placement due to substance abuse. Participants often have a history of unsuccessful treatment attempts, instances of legal involvement, or other identified risks such as combined mental health issues. The goal of this program is to keep adolescents in their home community. It includes group sessions, intensive case management, consultations, individual and family sessions.
New Choices for Adolescents. This is a program for adolescents (age 13-18) who are in the secure population at East Central Regional Juvenile Center in Lino Lakes. The program utilizes a cognitive treatment model based on research and evaluation that has been found to be effective with substance-abusing juvenile offenders. The program provides service coordination across systems and gradually incorporates informal community supports to prepare youths for transition to their home community.
Canvas Health offers a five-session family program to complement our comprehensive treatment approach for clients. Topics covered in the family program include: co-occurring disorders, communication, family systems, cognitive therapy and resources.
SHARE (Sober Housing and Recovery Environment): Canvas Health provides permanent housing and supportive services for chemically dependent, homeless, single parents and their children in Forest Lake. The goal is to help parents and their children become self sufficient and contributing members to the community. Case managers provide advocacy to help parents address substance abuse problems that have often resulted in their involvement in the legal system and child protection services.
