Helping children and families heal together after trauma and stress.

Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is an evidence-based treatment designed for young children (typically ages birth to 5) and their caregivers who have experienced stressful or traumatic events. These experiences can include family violence, loss, separation, or other situations that disrupt a child’s sense of safety and security. CPP focuses on strengthening the relationship between child and caregiver as the foundation for healing and healthy development.

Benefits of CPP

Early childhood is a critical time for emotional and social development. When stress or trauma occurs, it can impact a child’s ability to trust, regulate emotions, and feel safe. CPP helps families rebuild these foundations by:

  • Restoring a sense of safety and security for the child
  • Supporting caregivers in understanding and responding to their child’s emotional needs
  • Promoting resilience and healthy coping strategies for the whole family

How CPP helps children and families

CPP is tailored to each family’s unique needs and can help with:

  • Strengthening family relationships and communication
  • Healing and growth after stressful or traumatic events
  • Reducing challenging behaviors in young children
  • Improving caregiver-child attachment and bonding
  • Increasing emotional and behavioral regulation
  • Building a sense of safety and trust within the family

How CPP works

CPP sessions involve both the child and their primary caregiver. A trained therapist uses play, conversation, and guidance to help families process difficult experiences and develop positive patterns of interaction. The goal is to create a safe space where healing can happen together.
