Nox Zand-Dow, MSW

Mobile Crisis Clinical Trainee

I believe in every human being’s capacity to change. You’re in the driver’s seat of your life while I ride along with a roadmap of options that may have worked for others, but you’re the one who chooses the route. My approach to anti-oppressive care is systems-oriented, collectivistic, trauma responsive, and grounded in harm reduction. I view symptoms as ways of adapting that serve us in crisis but don’t support our long-term wellbeing. I want you to know that you deserve more. We may not be able to control our environments, but we can choose how we want to respond and engage with the world.

Professional Experience

I have primarily supported individuals navigating serious and persistent mental illness, substance use disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual violence, domestic violence, and child sexual abuse. My experience prior to mobile crisis includes group work, intensive residential treatment services for co-occurring disorders, victim support advocacy, medical advocacy, legal advocacy, systems navigation for behavioral health home case management, and permanent supportive housing. I use techniques from psychiatric rehabilitation, solution-focused brief therapy, narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other skills-based approaches. I am a certified victim support advocate and have additional training in recovery strategies for co-occurring disorders, grief and ambiguous loss, trauma-focused CBT, and CBT for psychosis.

About Me

I have two dogs (Pancake and Bananas) and love hiking, road trips, card/board games, meditation, and mutual aid in my free time. Outside of work, I volunteer and do research on community capacity-building. My previous research focused on new treatments for PTSD and moral injury in veterans, how intersectionality impacts perceptions of sexual violence, and harm reduction.
