Children and adolescents, like adults, can benefit from counseling. Therapists can teach them how to develop problem-solving skills and help them cope with stress and a variety of emotional and behavioral issues. These kinds of therapies can address immediate concerns and also support a child in their development toward adulthood.
Many children, adolescents, and their families need help dealing with school stress, such as homework, test anxiety, bullying, or peer pressure. Others need help to discuss their feelings about family issues, particularly if there’s a major transition, such as a divorce, move, or serious illness.
Canvas Health’s skilled, caring clinicians handle all concerns related to family and child mental health services. We do full screenings and assessments, and provide case management to ensure that nothing falls through the cracks. Our continuum of care, which includes access to day treatment programs, substance use services, psychological testing and crisis services, provide you with a comprehensive and individualized team of treatment providers.

“It is not the bruises on the body that hurt. It is the wounds of the heart and the scars on the mind.”
As your therapist, my goal is to bring a genuine, authentic, and accepting space to help you navigate through this complex world we live in. I see myself as a guide and my approach is very much rooted in the thought that every individual inherently holds the capacity for growth, resilience, and positive transformation – and I am here to help you see it too.
Authenticity is my strong suit as a therapist. I bring my genuine self into our sessions, whether it involves offering encouragement or providing gentle feedback.
I am deeply committed to supporting individuals across diverse populations, with a particular focus on those who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color), first-generation individuals, and those with intersectional identities. I’m genuinely excited to welcome anyone seeking to collaborate on their healing journey, and I can’t wait to embark on this meaningful path together.
I have been working in the mental health field since 2018, initially supporting adolescents with severe emotional disturbance (SED) in a residential setting. I later transitioned to providing Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS), both in-home and community environments for adults. Throughout, I’ve engaged with a diverse range of individuals dealing with various mental health diagnoses, including behavioral disorders and trauma.
I incorporate diverse modalities, such as a holistic and culturally responsive approach, strength-based and client-centered techniques, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

I believe that suffering is a part of life, but also that suffering is a great teacher and nurturer if we allow it. No one can live your life, but you–and still there is a place for you here in the sea of humanity.
Therapy invites you to see yourself in a new, more glorious, often fractured light. It takes the stuck, broken pieces that weigh us down and examines them with fresh eyes, offering hope in the healing journey ahead as those pieces turn into our own solid foundation. Be gentle as you begin this next journey.
I have worked in private practice in an outpatient setting since January of 2023. I have been a mindfulness teacher since 2021 with a prior career history in the arts and HR.

I stress the importance of practices of self-compassion in addressing shame and self-criticism. Additionally, I see the promotion of insight as an important step in demystifying, de-shaming, and empowering clients. This often involves orienting clients to the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors related to their presenting problem. I find that this psychoeducation and insight promotion can create some much-needed separation between client and presenting concern. From here, there is room for attention to be brought to their values, broad life goals, cultural identity, and vital strengths so as not to lose sight of their personhood through their struggles. Despite many of my interventions being focused on adaptive change, I also see the value in acceptance, distress tolerance, and mindful awareness. In this way, I see the role of a therapist as often not fixing client problems but rather helping clients change how they relate to them.
I have more than seven years of experience working in the mental health field. I am currently a student in the University of St. Thomas’ counseling psychology doctoral program (PsyD). My professional experience includes working with adolescents and adults providing individual therapy in outpatient and college counseling center settings. Psychotherapist
Adlerian Psychology:
My foundational approach is using Adlerian Psychotherapy which focuses on applied use of encouragement, ensuring a sense of connectedness and challenging of mistaken beliefs, assumptions, attitudes, and/or behaviors about self and association with their world view.
I started this next level career as a co-occurring substance use addiction counselor with a mental health focus in 2017. I transitioned to fully practice mental health therapy in 2021 working with adults who experience multiple concerns with diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, addiction to behavioral disorders and trauma using a person-centered approach. I apply an eclectic array of modalities such as Adlerian, CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic, ACT, Narrative Therapy as well as culturally responsive approaches that incorporate motivational interviewing techniques. I have a strong Christian faith, and I enjoy working with those of the same faith, and those of different faiths, and those who do not practice a religion or faith. Talk therapy is the traditional form of therapy most people think of when they talk about seeing a therapist. I work to help you find and address the root causes of your suffering, rather than to label and treat the symptoms alone; after all you’re more than just a label. In a relaxed atmosphere, I will work with you to address the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical imbalances that are causing you stress and discomfort. I believe that one’s emotional balance is important to every aspect of life and when it is off balance, getting the support to achieve balance is important. My goal as a therapist is having a listening ear, providing unconditional positive regard and most importantly empathy creates a unique and welcoming environment for those seeking these types of services.
I enjoy watching competitive television cooking programs, traveling, avid foodie, and watching all movie genres.

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Intern
I approach therapy as a collaborative process that is grounded in a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. I take the time to get to know each of my clients and my work with them starts from where they currently are. In our sessions, I bring compassion, curiosity, humor, and respect for my clients. I aim to create a safe space for them to explore, process, and gain insight into many of their experiences and challenges. I also work with them to cultivate healthy coping skills and build a values-driven life, even when challenges and painful emotions arise.
I encourage my clients to sit with difficult emotions, thoughts, and bodily sensations rather than avoid them using tools such as mindfulness and distress tolerance skills. I also support clients explore their values in life and align their actions with those values to build a meaningful life. Overall, my therapeutic approach is one that balances warmth with honesty, depth with applicability, and acceptance with intention.
I am currently in the final year of my doctoral training in psychology at the University of St. Thomas. I have worked with clients in the mental health field for over four years and I have training in various therapeutic modalities, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I adapt my therapeutic approach to suit each client’s unique needs, and I actively engage with each client to ensure that we’re progressing toward the goals that matter most to them.
When I’m not with my clients or working on my doctoral dissertation, I enjoy exploring different restaurants and coffee shops, staying active through yoga, indoor rock-climbing, and working out, and spending quality time with my family and friends.

We all face expected and unexpected challenges that require us to change. I strive to provide a supportive environment where clients can reorient themselves, build skills, and develop new insights toward change and growth.
I work alongside clients to help them understand how the adaptations that they developed during challenging periods in their lives are helpful or unhelpful in the lives they lead now and in achieving the goals they have for the future. In therapy we modify those adaptations so that they are healthier and more functional using approaches such as: Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I also draw on mindfulness, values exploration, and CBT practices.
I have experience working with adults in residential settings, skill building in the community, and providing individual outpatient therapy.

Psychotherapist
Life is sometimes hard. It is okay to struggle and to need help. I approach therapeutic work as a collaborative effort towards mental wellness. I believe that a lot of mental health symptoms stem from attempts to meet needs in ways that work at the time and later lose much of their effectiveness. Together we can work to change these patterns and find a way for you to thrive in the life you deserve.
I have worked with clients ages 5 to 90, of any gender identity, and with a variety of presenting problems. My previous work has focused on students, residential psychiatric care, substance use and abuse, problematic sexual behavior, clients in crisis, and outpatient care with adolescents and adults.
Your values are the center of all our work together. Each person comes to therapy as an expert on themselves, their experiences, and their goals for growth. I work to honor that unique perspective by spending time getting to know you. Your history, passions, hobbies, interests, beliefs, values, traits, goals, and everything else that makes you who you are come together in a spectacularly distinct style of life. Together, we can use these strengths in the following ways: to review patterns that are not helping you live the life you desire; to challenge symptoms, systems, and situations that are leading to discouragement in your daily life; and to build a toolbox of skills and insights to help you challenge the areas in which you seek change.
I emphasize genuineness in all of my work. I bring whole self to session each day and encourage that you do the same. I love to learn about the important people in your life, your specific hobbies and interests, and anything else that makes you the youest you. I’m involved in several niche interests myself and love finding ways to tie your passions into our work towards wellness. I bring a lot of humor into my work and am comfortable with feedback and openness.
I utilize primarily Adlerian Psychotherapy and techniques from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am an LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapist. I do individual and group therapy and work with adolescents, adults, families, and couples.
“Tell them to look up. Tell them to remember the stars…The stars are always there but we miss them in the dirt and clouds. We miss them in the storms. Tell them to remember hope. We have hope.” – Renee Yohe in If You Feel Too Much By: Jamie Tworkowski
